A significant part of Moroccan heritage lies outside the Kingdom today. Over the course of history, manuscripts, archives, objects and recordings were taken, bought and sold; they now rest in libraries, museums and private collections abroad. The Foundation is also searching, all over the world, for the people and institutions who hold them, in order to recover digitally everything that can be recovered.
We take nothing: we digitize. Families, institutions and collectors keep their documents — writings, photographs, films, sound recordings and everything Khizana sets out to gather. Only their digital memory, documented and protected, joins Khizana.
The IRFAN Foundation is the body that gathers and documents these collections, and that manages Khizana’s resources and funding.

The IRFAN Foundation is building a network of cultural ambassadors: Moroccans around the world, researchers, students, diplomats, librarians, booksellers, collectors and history enthusiasts. Wherever they live, they identify manuscripts, archives, photographs, films and recordings connected with Morocco held in libraries, museums, archives, auctions and private collections.
Their role: to report these collections to the Foundation, help establish contact with their holders and help secure their digitization. The documents stay where they are: only their digital copy joins Khizana.

Do you hold a manuscript, rare books, family archives, photographs, correspondence, documents or oral memory connected with Morocco? Every proposal is the subject of a careful and confidential exchange, with respect for the rights and agreements established with holders. We only digitize: your original documents remain your property and are returned to you; the Foundation keeps none of them.
